“One of the projects for civil/ mechanical engineering interns are creating P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams) for certain terminals in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Texas. Many changes to the pipelines have been made throughout the past few years and none of the changes had been documented until now. These drawings are important because they must accurately represent what the pipelines look like in reality and must closely document each individual component of the pipelines, like valves, meters, tanks, etc. Proper documentation makes it much easier when it comes to any maintenance work, replacements, or reconstruction of these systems, especially when changes to the pipeline infrastructure are made frequently.” –Carson, UW-Platteville
