Remembering Ray Schmidt U.S. Venture’s last living founder, passes away at 93
APPLETON, WI – March 11, 2021 – On March 8, 2021, Ray Schmidt, U.S. Venture’s last living founder, passed away at the age of 93.
Ray and his brother, Art, founded Schmidt Brothers Oil in 1951, and their father, Albert, later joined the business. A decade later, their younger brother, Bill, replaced Albert. Together, the three brothers grew the business through an unwavering work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
“Those who knew the brothers well knew that Ray was frequently the “peacemaker” of the family, shared John Schmidt, president and CEO of U.S. Venture. “This role was not just a reflection of Ray’s remarkable kindness, but his unique ability to truly see people and take the time to get to know them. In doing so, Ray laid the foundation for the people-first culture that is a hallmark of U.S. Venture today.”
In his retirement, Ray made frequent visits to the U.S. Venture office to share stories and express his sincere appreciation for the U.S. Venture family.
Throughout his life, Ray remained humble and sincerely grateful for his life and family’s many blessings. He recognized those less fortunate and was passionately committed to charity and giving back. His spirit of generosity has left an indelible mark on our communities, and there is no doubt that Ray left the world forever better for having been in it.
